I have at this point relegated Brexit to the large pile of "I don't understand this and I don't need to" along with oh idk Nigerian politics and inorganic chemistry. I know they exist, I have a vague understanding of how they work, but gods please don't ask me to explain anything.

Basically, I don't see how me knowing about it is going to make the world better enough to be worth the energy.

If I am in fact wrong about this and there is something useful about me, as a US citizen, understanding this godforsaken mess, someone should let me know so I can schedule some time for screaming...

As far as I [an Australian who reads a lot of blogs by British people] can tell, the only thing the US can do that would help Britain is to get rid of Trump.

Because Trump has been egging Boris Johnson on in his idiotic ideas to leave the EU with no deal.

Nah, Johnson doesn't need Trump to egg him on; he's an entirely amoral power-obsessive on his own merits.

Speaking from the UK: you have my full permission to not even try to understand this shitshow.

If you've grasped that the UK is currently a poisoned trash fire of our own making (with a little help from the folks who brought you Trump), you've got the picture.

There is absolutely no need for you to know what "proroguing" means (for example), nor will this benefit anyone in any conceivable way.

There's not a lot anyone outside the UK can do to help. Signal-boosting reminders to UK people to make sure to register to vote if not already registered ( https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote ) could be mildly useful? But that's about all I can think of.

So yeah, save your spoons for things in the US; you've got enough to deal with.

Someday, some poor bastard is going to play "roguing" against me in Scrabble, and won't they be surprised.

Honestly all I want to know is: can I go see my friend next year in Wales.

That's it. Sigh.
